An exquisite classic steel lugged bike that celebrates frame design and craftsmanship from a bygone era

Complete Bikes From £4985.00

The brief: To design an exquisite and classically styled steel lugged frameset that celebrates and pays homage to frame design and craftsmanship of a bygone era.
The result: A re-imagined ‘classic’ steel lugged J.ACK, representing the epitome of bicycle art, traditional engineering and artisanship.

OUR classically styled steel lugged frame that celebrates frame design and craftsmanship from a bygone era. A romantic genre of cycling which is currently seeing a resurgence thanks to organised heritage events such as L’Eroica.
The steel lugged Classic Jack has been fabricated using the traditional artisanal manufacturing methods and using the lightest and strongest tubeset of the period, Columbus SLX, which was reintroduced in 2019 after a 20 year absence from the range. Columbus SLX made of Cyclex Superbutted steel features five spirals for greater rigidity in the joint areas and bottom bracket as well as double butted ends.
Once the tubes have been cut and mitred to their bespoke lengths they are brazed to the lightweight cast fork crown and frame lugs which are custom engraved.
The complete frame is hand polished giving it a lustrous finish before receiving its chrome treatment and then finally the radiant ruby red Cromovelato semi-transparent ‘candy apple’ like finishing coat.
The Classic Jack is offered in two different configurations, either Originale or Moderno. The Originale design pays homage to bikes from the 1980s, featuring an original groupset from the period, such as Campagnolo’s 50th Anniversary groupset, or a modern equivalent with downtube shifters, a 5 or 6 speed cassette and authentic details such as chromed steel toe clips.
The Moderno build takes inspiration from the original bikes of the period and fuses this with the latest components and gearing creating a modern classic.
Most notably placing the gear shifters on the hoods rather than the downtube, making them much more accessible and easier to use. We particularly like Campagnolo’s Centaur 11 speed rim brake mechanical groupset in silver or d’argento in Italian, which like the groupsets of the time is silver and is stylistically more similar to the original groupsets. Alternatively any of Campagnolog’s mechanical or electronic rim brake groupsets would also work beautifully on the Classic Jack.
All Classic Jacks are made to order and we highly recommend a bike fit at our base in Oakham, Rutland before ordering where possible.

Design Features

Brass headbadge, choice of solid brass or solid brass with black infill. A special smaller brass head badge was commissioned for the narrower head tube diameter and is available in either raw brass or brass with black infill.

The seat tube diameter can be any diameter to suit seat posts new or old. The most common size for modern seatposts is 27.2mm.

Choose from downtube shifters for an authentic Originale bike or modern handlebar shifters for a Moderno build.

Tyre clearance of 32mm or 30mm with mudguards, ideal for rough and smooth road surfaces alike as well as Italian gravel roads that make up the L’eroica route.

The lugs are cast and engraved before being chromed and lacquered or painted.

The frame serial number can be customised to match the groupset.

The classic logo and frame graphics are inspired by Jack Laverack’s time as a test pilot, flying the first military jet planes.

Traditional lightweight cast fork crown and lugs are custom engraved and brazed to the tubes.
